SUPERSHINE
Empowering Communities, Tackling Energy Poverty through Social Housing Renovation
SUPERSHINE is an EU-funded project that focuses on the renovation of social housing to help households struggling to pay their energy bills, contributing to the decrease of energy poverty.

The EU-funded initiative known as SUPERSHINE is dedicated to revitalizing social housing to aid households facing challenges with energy expenses, thereby combatting energy poverty. Its primary objectives include establishing replicable smart district models that prioritize energy efficiency, affordability, and sustainability, while ensuring sufficient and targeted funding.

SUPERSHINE aims to lead the way in fostering city districts that collaborate to expedite the adoption of zero-carbon lifestyles across Europe. The project will focus on three pilot "lighthouse" districts: Trieste (Italy), Herning (Denmark), and Riga (Latvia), which will serve as showcases.

These SUPERSHINE lighthouse districts will feature energy-efficient buildings, low-carbon transportation, smart grids, effective water and waste management, all supported by responsive technologies that optimize resources and promote well-being and sustainable living.

Following the successful demonstration of these lighthouses, SUPERSHINE partners will develop similar models in other cities such as Setúbal (Portugal), Belgrade (Serbia), Zaragoza (Spain), and Istanbul (Turkey).

The objectives and outcomes of the SUPERSHINE project will aid the European Commission in implementing the European Green Deal, as well as support initiatives like the EU Renovation Wave Strategy and the New European Bauhaus. Additionally, SUPERSHINE will play a pivotal role in fostering collaboration among city districts to accelerate the transition to zero-carbon living and enhance the resilience of Europe's urban areas. The project will draw upon the methodology and insights gained from the SUPER-i project.
